Texas A&M Aggies upset #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide

The Texas A&M Aggies have upset the #1 ranked Alamaba Crimson tide. They won 41-38 on a game-winning 28-yard field goal.

Texas A&M was 3-2 coming into tonight’s game against Alabama. All three of their wins came against non-SEC opponents (Kent State, Colorado, New Mexico). They lost 20-10 to 16th ranked Arkansas and 26-22 to Mississippi State.

Alabama on the other hand was 5-0 coming into tonight’s game. They already beat three top 15 ranked teams and were favored to easily defeat Texas A&M.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young threw for 369 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Jameson Willams was on the receiving end of those passes most often catching 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Brian Robinson Jr. was their leading rusher carrying the ball 24 times for 147 yards.

Texas A&M quarterback Zach Calzada threw for 285 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He had a very similar stat line to Bryce Jones outside of the yardage total. Ainias Smith was the Aggies leading receiver in the game. He hauled in 6 receptions for 85 yards and two big touchdowns. Their leading rusher was Isaiah Spiller who rushed 17 times for 47 yards and 1 touchdown.

End of a streak for Alabama

This loss ends a 19 game win streak for the Crimson Tide. That was the longest active winning streak in Division 1 FBS. This loss also makes Jimbo Fisher the first Alabama assistant to ever beat Nick Saban.

Saban made some comments about his disappointment in the loss after the game.

“Obviously this is a very disappointing loss for us. I know the players are very disappointed. I think everybody needs to remember how they feel, and not forget it. When I talk about having respect for winning, that’s what I mean.”

This Alabama loss opens the door for Georgia and Iowa who have been knocking. Both teams are undefeated and were far behind Alabama in terms of first-place votes. Everything is completely wide open now. This will have a serious impact on the college football playoffs down the road.

Next week Alabama looks to bounce back against Mississippi State while Texas A&M looks to improve on their 4-2 record with their momentum from the upset.
