Technology is amazing when used properly. While there are downsides to consuming too much technology, the benefits they provide in helping us reach our fitness goals far outweigh the cons. Over the years I have discovered several fitness apps that have helped me at the gym, nutritionally, and staying motivated as I work towards my fitness goals.
We live in a time where more information than we can handle is available to us all hours of the day. Prior to the age of technology, we would have to have purchased a book to get work out and healthy cooking inspiration outside of working with a personal trainer and registered dietitian.
Check out our recent interview with registered dietitian Emily Boauto about frozen vegetables.
Books are amazing and I will never downplay reading one. With that being said, a book is only one source and it can get quite expensive to stock up on fitness-related books. The internet is endless in a sense. That is both good and bad. There is a lot of information available and it can be overwhelming trying to find useful and applicable information.
Today I am going to discuss three fitness apps I am loving right now that help me reach and maintain my fitness goals.
3 Fitness Apps to help you reach your goals
Jefit – Best for workout routines & tracking
Jefit is an app I have been using for a long time. It allows you to track your workouts and easily find workouts by muscle group. My favorite part is that it shows you how to do each exercise with a gif illustration. The app has evolved a lot over the years and is still a must-have for every person with workout goals.
Here is the app’s current description from the Google Play App store.
“JEFIT, the number one workout tracking planner app, provides free fitness program database to help you stay fit, make progress and get the most out of your gym or home fitness sessions. From beginner programs like 5×5, 531, stronglifts, 3 or 4 day splits, starting strength to advanced bodybuilding, weightlifting, powerlifting or kettlebell routines to programs using bodyweight, limited space or specialized equipment, JEFIT is the only workout app you need.“
The entire app is essentially free (ad-supported) except for some select pro features like a backup. The ads do not make the experience laggy or annoying in any way.
Jefit has helped me with accountability and creativity. I have been able to track my workouts and effectively mix them up because of this app.
MyFitnessPal – Best for diet tracking and accountability
MyFitnessPal is another staple and must-have fitness app for everyone. I use this app primarily for tracking my diet. It is labeled as a calorie counter but it is truly so much more than that. You can use it to track all macro and micronutrients.
Here is the app’s current description from the Google Play App store.
“Whether you want to lose weight, tone up, get healthy, change your habits, or start a new diet MyFitnessPal has you covered. Our members have lost over 200 million pounds and 88% of people who track for at least 7 days on MyFitnessPal lose weight. Sign up for FREE and start living a happier and healthier life today!“
The description is spot on. I credit a lot of my past success to this app. I know how many calories and nutrients are in almost everything I eat from using this app almost every day. Because of that, it has made me able to practice intuitive eating and be self-sufficient.
I still track my food in MyFitnessPal from time to time to see where I’m at.
The free version is more than enough for basic needs. If you are more serious into specific goals or bodybuilding I highly suggest the premium version where you can track macros easily, get meal plans and recipes, and an ad-free experience.
ThinkUp – Best for motivation & self improvement
In my opinion, the best way to get motivated is from within. ThinkUp helps you do just that with daily positive affirmations and motivation that help you change the way you think and view yourself. That is the type of motivation that will last and pull you through tough times. ThinkUp is one of those life-changing fitness apps/
Here is the app’s current description from the Google Play App store.
“What stops you from achieving goals or becoming who you want to be? Build your own self improvement program to develop the mindset and motivation you need to succeed, using personal affirmations in the most effective way.
Our mindsets and thoughts have enormous impact on our motivation, self-esteem, health, prosperity, and happiness. Positive self-talk is a simple and proven technique practiced by psychologists and life coaches to overcome challenges and achieve goals.”
With the free version, you can record up to 5 affirmations with default music to listen to daily. You can get the premium version for $2.99 a month for unlimited affirmations and the ability to upload your own background music.
Please give ThinkUp an honest try and put some effort into it. Positive affirmations are no joke. This is the most powerful of the three fitness apps. Once you change your mind, everything else will follow. This positive change will help you with your diet and workouts as well.
