Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is confident in his team but concerned about the NFL not addressing fan attendance for the 2020 season.
McDermott’s concerns come after we addressed this growing matter earlier in the week about how the NFL needs a league-wide policy for fan attendance.
The NFL season starts in 17 days and they still do not have a league-wide policy for fan attendance. A number of coaches have already expressed how unfair it is that some teams will have fans and others will not.
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is the latest to voice his opinion over the rising concern.
“I think it’s honestly ridiculous that there will be, on the surface, what appears to be a playing field that’s like that — inconsistently across the league with the different away stadiums,” McDermott told ESPN reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques.
The Buffalo Bills were the favorites to win the AFC East prior to the New England Patriots signing former MVP Cam Newton. They feel they have a good team this year and this is something that can give other teams they play an unfair advantage.
The Buffalo Bills are not able to have fans at games this year because of the guidelines for professional sports set forth by New York State. The state guidelines can change but we have not seen any reports that the Bills are looking at fans once that does.
The New England Patriots are the only team in the AFC East that will have fans at game this season as of right now.
Other coaches are not happy either
Other coaches have also expressed concern over this because for many it is something they have no control over. The inability for some teams to have fans came at the state government level as the case with the Bills.
Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio have both expressed their concerns over lack of league-wide attendance policy. The Vikings are currently in limbo and the Broncos are not having fans but are willing to reevaluate as the season progresses.
