Anthony Barr is finally off the free agent market. The Dallas Cowboys are signing former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr. The news was first reported by NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo.
The Cowboys displayed earlier interest in Barr and finally pulled the trigger to bring Barr into their current group that has already started training camp.
Anthony Barr went much farther into free agency than many expected. The former pro bowl linebacker with the Minnesota Vikings did not know if he was going to re-sign with Minnesota or end up elsewhere. As time passed, it oddly looked like he might not end up getting signed before camp.
Barr is a top talent but his health and consistency are questionable over recent years. Since 2019, Barr has played in just 27 of 49 games for the Vikings. The Vikings opted to move on with free agents and through the draft.
This is a chance for Anthony Barr to revitalize his career with a change of scenery as he joins a Dallas defense that is hungry to get back to the playoffs and ultimately the Super Bowl.
Outside of injuries, Barr is an above-average to great linebacker. If Dallas can keep him healthy and put him in the right position, he can add quality depth and also be a starter if needed. This is a great move by the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys are going to be a tough team again this season. If Dak Prescott can take this team to the next step and this defense can match the offense. They will be on their way to a top seed come playoff time.
