The Dallas Mavericks have shown that they are going to make the #2 seeded Los Angeles Clippers truly earn a trip to the second round of the NBA playoffs if they want to go this year. The Mavs just beat the Clippers 127-114. Realistically, they could be up 2-0 in the series right now had their not been a questionable ejection of their star 7’3″ power forward Kristaps Porziņģis during game 1.
Kawhi Leonard led all scorers with 35 points in the game. That amazing performance, unfortunately, wasn’t enough with a slow night from Paul George and the rest of the Clippers’ supporting cast.
The Mavericks got 38 points from Luka Doncic, 23 from Porzingis, and 17 from Tim Hardaway Jr.
“We got a win, that’s all I care about” Said Doncic when asked about his stats after the game. “We played really great defense and a lot of guys showed up…. and we got a chance… The thing about Dallas is we are gonna give everything 100 percent and leave our heart on the court.”
How will this affect the Clippers during the NBA Playoffs?
The Clippers will be looking to bounce back take back control of the series.
“Just give Dallas credit they played hard tonight.” Kawhi Leonard said in his post-game interview. “They are the reason why we didn’t come back. They knocked down big shots, at the right time we got to the free-throw line and that is what it was.”
The Clippers are in a similar position as the other team from Los Angeles. The Lakers lost their first playoff game to the Portland Trail Blazers.
There are some great first-round matchups in the western conference right now. It’s not often that the #1 and #2 seeds can legitimately lose a series the #7 and #8 seeds.
“Nobody ever wants to lose.” Leonard added “But every moment is a learning moment to learn from mistakes. Right now it’s a loss and we gotta get through that adversity.”
Game 3 is set to tip off Friday August 21st at 8:00 pm CST on TNT.
